Welcome to part two of my quest to become a bag-making guru! (read about part one)
My new year’s resolution is to sew my way through The Bag Making Bible by Lisa Lam. I love this book! I’m happy to start reading it, instead of letting it just sit on a shelf like most of my other books. This one’s filled with great tips, designs and patterns that seem easy to follow.
With this Reversible Bucket Bag, I’ve got two patterns down, with five more to go. I can DEFINITELY do this! I’m just dying to get started on the Office Bag though, hmmm… I might have to skip ahead.
The Reversible Bucket Bag:
I’m a total sucker for storage and this bag has plenty. I do wish it had some compartments to separate items though, but since it’s reversible I understand why it doesn’t. For me, the hardest part was attaching the bottom of the bag to its body. It called for some pleating/puckering of fabric and I felt sort of awkward doing this step. I was also a little bit underwhelmed with the bag handles, so I’m going to add an extra layer of fusible lining to the second bag that I’m making. One thing I absolutely love about it is its closure. I created my first ever fabric button for this bag, and by attaching a safety pin to it you’re able to move it from one side of the bag to the other. The fabric button was super simple to make, and if you’ve never made one before, you’ve got to try it! I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. I also got to use some new Tula Pink fabric and some old Amy Butler fabric, and it was way too easy to make them look good.
This is definitely a must-make bag!
I’m so excited about what this book has taught me so far, and how it’s been building me up for more difficult steps like zippers. Oh I just can’t wait to play with zippers! I find myself buying them every time I go to the store.
Oh, before I forget, a special shot out to Vale for taking photos and Jack the cat for modeling. Thank you so much! If you would like to see more bag project blog posts click here.
