Hedge Rose Fabric

Have you seen these fabrics?!! I am totally obsessed. Its colors are lush and lovely! They include light teals, rich reds, corals, deep navy blues, jean blues and bright greens. The designer of this blooming line called Hedge Rose is Kelly Panacci done for Penny Rose Fabrics (a division of Riley Blake Designs). The collection has so much depth and texture. The main print, full of large roses, is definitely my favorite. Kelly totally pushes the limits with each print. She uses one of my favorite classic designs, a simple dot, but adds a textured grunge to it. To me it seems as though the Hedge Rose Floral prints even glow. Absolutely dreamy! I wanted to use all of the colors in the line because they play so well with each other so I made this Hedge Rose Double Pinwheel Quilt.

Hedge Rose Double Pinwheel Quilt

This quilt has me smiling from ear to ear. It is so soft and cozy. I am verty happy with how it turned out. It is based off of my pattern called The Double Pinwheel Quilt, a free one that you can download from my Bluprint shop. Its finished size 58.25” x 78.5”. I changed it up by adding more fabrics and colors. It was a little challenging. I worked one row at a time, and after making two rows it became a little easier. What you really need to know is that the quilt has 24 double pinwheels in it, and for each double pinwheel, you have an inner color, outer color, and contrast color.

To make one double pinwheel, you will need:
Inner color: two — 3″ x 8″; two — 3″ x 3″
Outer color: five — 5.5″ x 3″; six — 3″ x 3″
White: one — 10.5″ x 3″; one — 13″ x 3″; three — 3″ x 3″; four — 5.5″ x 3″

The Quilting

This is the first time I did straight line quilting on my domestic machine. It turned out beautifully and was faster than some of the other quilts I have quilted on my Bernina, so I will definitely do it again. Adding a touch of hand quilting to one of the double pinwheels created a sweet contrast. Because the backing I ordered didn’t exactly match the teal, I found the perfect double wide Riley Blake fabric at my LQS. Since I had some extra red fabrics, they became my binding.

I really want to enter it into the Garden of Quilts show that is happening this September in Utah. A dream of mine is to attend an outdoor quilt show and this is going to be the year!!
