My husband has always had a soft spot for fish tacos. Every time I whip up this delectable dish, I’m immediately transported back to an unforgettable trip we took to Austin, Texas. We had the good fortune to stay right in the beating heart of the city. Allowing us to explore every nook and cranny by foot.
Our wanderlust led us to a quirky, vibrant eating joint called Wahooos. Its unique character and mouthwatering menu quickly became our favorite, compelling us to dine there multiple times during our stay. The distinct flavor and atmosphere of the place left a lasting imprint on us.
Upon returning home, I found myself missing the taste of our Austin adventure. Eager to recreate the food experience we had, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I add fish tacos to our weekly dinner rotation. I spent countless hours scouring the Internet for recipes that would bring the magic of Wahooos to our own dinner table.
And so, every time we sit down for a meal of fish tacos, we’re not just enjoying a delicious dinner. We’re reliving the memories of that amazing trip and the culinary adventure we embarked on in Austin.
This is the fish taco rub I use:
5 teaspoon Paprika
1 teaspoon dried Oregano
1teaspoon dried Thyme
1teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
Introduce a burst of freshness to your palette with cabbage, a perfect crunch to complement the tenderness of the fish taco. Add a dollop of avocado salsa to lend a creamy and tangy undertone that brings a delightful contrast to the spice. For an enhanced flavor profile, sprinkle some cooked garlic. Its smokey and nutty taste will impart a unique depth to the overall dish. Cheese is a must!! A sprinkle of cheese will add a rich, salty, and creamy dimension, making it a true indulgence. Pair the dish with refried beans add a hearty element to the dish and provide a satisfying balance of texture and flavor. Lastly, serve it with couscous. This fluffy side acts as a wonderful sponge for sauces while introducing a grain and creates a balanced meal. Enjoy!!
