Cross Body Bag – For Halloween

Cross Body Bag – For Halloween

The first project in my Halloween project series is a Cross Body Bag

I have woken up from a trance, where sweet tart colors
have ruled my days and danced in my dreams.

I’ve been completely bewitched with a
Halloween collection called Spellbound; by Rashida
Coleman-Hale
and Sarah Watts,
fabric designers for Cotton and Steel.

.

I used Spellbound for all of my halloween projects like the one I am talking about today - Cross Body Bag

Spellbound Fabric

I went online and ordered it, then I ordered some more. I couldn’t stop myself there  —  after finding some more fabric in a few quilt shops, I purchased more (totaling somewhere around 6 yards). What I love about it is how the design doesn’t have an obvious Halloween vibe, you really have to stare at the patterns to see the genius talent behind it. At this point, I can’t decide what designs I like the most. I’m between the lace spider web or the polka dot print, that has replaced the dots with skulls. No wait, the cats, I am a sucker for cats! Oh, but that mummy is cute…though, the focal design is so delicate, yet witchy, full of spell bottles, spiders, and flowers. This one is definitely my favorite. Like I said, TOTALLY bewitched!!

I am wearing the Cross Body Bag the photos is grey scale but the bags pops because it is in color

.

I got a jump start on Halloween this year because of the Halloween Mini Swap I participated in last month. The bats that I used in the Mini are the bats that I will be playing with all month. I probably made too many bags but really, can a girl ever have too many bags? Nope, I didn’t think so. I will feature these projects over the next few weeks, making way for my favorite holiday, Halloween AKA my birthday.

Cross Body Bag – Halloween Project

Today I am showing off my Cross Body Bag called Bite Me. Yes, it features another bat, but this bat is not like the others that I’ve made, its solo. I used the same concept as my previous Bat Tutorial post, but I altered it a little. The angle is the same, however the strip size are larger. I really like how it turned out.

When Making the Bag:

For the front, I used the green skull polka dot and spider web lace fabric from Spellbound.

For the back side of the bag, I selected a black ratty knit costume fabric that I fused to a quilting fabric. On the inside, I used a simple muslin. I wanted a fun edging that would hang at the bottom of the bag. At Joann’s I found the perfect tassel lace edging. I used scrap fabric that I’ve had for years for the words Bite Me and thought the leather strap would be a fun way to finish the project. I can’t wait to use it.
