The Fabric
Are you ready for a blast from the past?? I found the sweetest floral line called Lemonade Sundae for this Garden Star One quilt. I love the vintage vibe of the fabric line. I feel like it’s from the thirties. My heart just sings when I look at it! Heart Flower Green is my favorite fabric from the line. There is just something about that green. I love that color so much, I even have green heels in that same color (LOL). The brilliant creator of this line is Leonie Bateman; she designs for Penny Rose Fabrics, sister company to Riley Blake Designs. If you want to learn more about her, she has a lovely Instagram feed. She shares her fabrics, photos, and creations. I selected six fabrics from the line for the colored parts on the front of the quilt. For the back, I selected an oversized gingham (1/2″ Woven Gingham Navy) and the white fabric on the quilt tops is Swiss Dot Reversed Rose Gold Sparkle.
Garden Star One Quilt
This is the very first quilt pattern I created (here is a link to that blog post), Garden Star One quilt. The finished size is 58″ x 58″, a throw size quilt. When I designed the first pattern, it was smaller. I created it in theory and it wasn’t until it was bound that I realized there needed to be some type of border around it. That is because without a border, the points are covered with binding. Ever since, I have wanted to re-release this pattern. And guess what? I am doing it today! Hooray! That’s right, it’s a pattern release day! Oh yeah!
This quilt is part of a series of quilts called Garden Star. I have designed them as one large block. I think it makes them bold, graphic, and easy to make. They are made with HSTs, which I LOVE making. So far, I have releases Garden Star Three and have Garden Star Two close to being released as well. The beauty about this series is that they are strong as a standalone piece but can be shrunk and repeated as a smaller block. Someday I will get around to creating the repeating series, but first I have to finish the big block series.
The Quilting
I quilted this quilt on my domestic machine, the Aurora 440 Bernina Quilter’s Edition. I love my BRS foot, now that I actually know how to use it. This machine doesn’t have a large throat space, but I still challenged myself to quilt different motifs in each part of the block. I am very happy with how it turned out. Cathy Harris and Christina Cameli would be proud. They have been my free motion quilting mentors. If you want to make this quilt, Garden Star One, head over to my Etsy shop. For the rest of the month everything will be 40% off. Why? Because it’s Birthday Bash Month!!!
The Giveaway
For the Garden Star One giveaway, I have a Lemonade Sundae Crisscross Apron panel. The pattern is designed by Mary Mulari with Leonie Bateman’s Lemonade Sundae prints. Instructions are printed on the panel, making it a project that can be completed quickly and easily. There is also a cookbook because of the kitchen theme we have going on. An adorable tin with cards and 7 eighths of Riley Blake Fabrics (that’s basically 7 fat quarters). To enter, head over to my Instagram page, like the giveaway photo, follow me, and after you have done these two things tag a friend or as many friends as you would like. Each tag will get you an entry into the giveaway. Once a random number is generated and a winner has been verified, I will announce the winner on Instagram. The winner will be announced November 2. Good luck everyone!!
