Home Made Challenge
Today is the day!! Today is the day!!! I entered my quilt into the FreeSpirit Home Made Challenge and today is the day that you can vote. Someone that enters into the challenge has to win first place at the local quilt shop to qualify and move onto the national round of the challenge. So head over to The Quilt Basket (aka Sewing Room) and vote for your favorite quilt in the challenge. Hopefully it is mine: #2. Eeeek!! I have my fingers crossed. Even my toes. LOL.
My Queen of the Night Quilt
I have been working on this quilt all summer and have poured a lot of love into it. My absolute favorite fabric from the Home Made line is the one with hearts and hands. Because of this, I fussy cut them into flying geese and think that really shows them off. The contrast in this line from Tula Pink is perfect. The way the colors pop next to the navy is dreamy. I love stars and any star block is my favorite block so they had to be a major part of this quilt. I designed this quilt so I can use it as a block of the month quilt. Something that I hope to put on next year. If you would like to sign up for that, click here, and as soon as I have the details I will share them in an email with you.
Naming The Quilt
I decided to name this quilt Queen of the Night because when I see the stars and flowers, I start thinking about how there are plants and cactus that bloom at night. In my yard, I have this great big cactus that has itty bitty flowers in comparison to the cactus and if I don’t go look at the flowers first thing in the morning, I miss them in all of their glory.
At the Tohonochul Botanical Garden here in Tucson, they predict when the Queen of the Night will bloom and open their garden for that night for a special mass blooming cactus show. I haven’t yet seen it in person. However after hearing about it, I bought a tiny Queen of the Night cactus. At this point it has doubled in size. Hopefully next year I will get some flowers.
