Lumberjack Aaron Fabric

Lumberjack Aaron Fabric

Ahhhhhh!!! Look at this quilt! I love, love, love it!!! This quilt has been on my list of makes for soooo long. It feels wonderful to have this finished. The pattern is called Legendary, which is the perfect name for it. Seeing Bigfoot on a quilt makes me smile and laugh. It stirs my imagination. As I drove up Mount Lemmon (here in Tucson, AZ) to take photos of this quilt, I envisioned Bigfoot frolicking through the forest and peeking out over the rocks. The fabric I used makes this quilt even more spectacular. It is called Lumberjack Aaron. In it, you will find a combination of burly, grit, warmth, and fun. What better fabric to create a forest than fabrics with axes, shovels, and tree trunks. The creator of this fabric line is Stacy West and she is a designer for Riley Blake Designs

When I debut a line for Riley Blake Designs, I try to use many of the fabrics in the line. That way, you get a good feel for the line. When I put my order in for the fabric, I thought I would make it scrappy. Combining the black, greens, and browns in each tree and using all the creams in each block too. I had thought I would use the main print as the binding, but once I saw Lumberjack Aaron Main Green I knew I had to feature it as one of the blocks. That changed everything about the way I put this quilt together.

Each tree is made out of one fabric. A black tree (Lumberjack Aaron Lines Black) that might be the remnants of one in a fire. A light brown tree that has recently dried out (Lumberjack Aaron Axes & Shovels Gold). Various deep green trees (Lumberjack Aaron Axes & Shovels Green and Evergreen Branches Green) that are humming with life. A great representation of an actual forest full of color and textures. I used the cream with the least amount of contrast on the top half of the quilt. Then on the bottom half of the quilt I used the cream with navigation symbols. It had slightly more variation than the top. The way I seamlessly switch between the two was with a tree. One side of one of the trees has one cream and the other side of the tree has the other cream. For the border I used the cream print with the most variations. How would you have pieced the creams together?

I used the wood grain fabric as the tree trunks. Bigfoot is a splash of blue in the middle of the quilt with Lumberjack Aaron Lines Blue fabric. Then I tied the blue color back in with the binding. These fabrics are such a great choice for a man’s quilt. A fall quilt. I see endless possibilities. What makes me even more happy is that I made this quilt for my nephew. That means my list of quilts to make for others is getting smaller.

For the back of the quilt, I used a slightly darker cream print. Full of warm textures called Hold Your Horses Birch Tan. Then I added a log cabin chevron block that I made using the ruler from the June edition of Love Patchwork & Quilting. So fun!!

Lumberjack Aaron will be on sale in August, so get your yards of fun before they are gone! Here is a link to the fabric for sale. Share your makes on Instagram using #lumberjackaaron, #rileyblakedesigns, #Iloverileyblake and #buttermilkbasin.
