EEEK!! I am so relieved to be able to announce the Mod City Center Quilt Along and to have this quilt pattern done. I have been tinkering with it for about a year now. I have decided to add more sizes to all the new patterns that I create for Brown Bird Designs, but that has left me with having to decide what the right size for a twin and a queen quilt is . . . For me this was a can of worms.
Originally, when I wrote the twin size, it was way too long. But I didn’t figure that out until I was laying my finished blocks out. This left me with a decision to make . . . should this be changed? This is something I struggled with for about six months. Because I felt like the throw size and the queen size didn’t have the same issue, I ended up changing the twin size. I feel much better about the pattern. Hey, you live and learn right?
The fabrics I used in this quilt are all Riley Blake Designs. Most of them are by the Tattooed Quilter (aka Christopher Thompson), whom I absolutely love! This is from his first line called Blue Carolina. I also threw some of RBD’s Basics in the mix, like the Pink Scissors, that’s such a great print. I think it blends perfectly into the quilt because of the French Bulldog print; it has pins, and what goes better with pins than scissors.
For the quilting, because it is so big, I did straight lines on my sister’s long arm. One block is left unquilted because I am going to do some hand stitching on that block. I picked a larger pink gingham print for the back and used a deep navy with pops of pink flowers for the binding. The quilt is soooo soft. It makes me want to curl up in it. My hubby has tried to stake his claim to the quilt, but I haven’t decided what to do with it yet.
For this pattern’s release, we are going to shake things up a bit. Instead of one simple giveaway, I am going to be hosting a quilt along with lots of prizes. In fact I will be giving a prize away with each new step. (see below) So, let’s make a quilt together, share our progress, and have a blast! This quilt along will be perfect for a new quilter. However, this pattern will be fun to make, regardless if you are a new quilter or a seasoned quilter. Post your pictures with #ModCityQuiltAlong on Instagram so everyone can see what you are making.
Each step will have its own hashtag revealed in that step’s blog post. This is because I will picking a new winner with each step. I will also have a few extra gifts to give out aside from the scheduled step giveaways. I haven’t decided how these will be picked; maybe the person that interacts the most or the one with the best tip . . . we shall see. So, save the date for the Mod City Center Quilt Along.

> Gayle brownYes!! Definitely. I tried to space it out so there is plenty of time, even if life got in the way. For the giveaways I will be pulling from two hashtags, the weekly post which will change, and for the grand prize and extra prizes the #modcitycenterquiltalong . You could even work ahead and have photos ready for those steps. It would look beautiful in solids! Thank you Gayle.
