A Joy to Sew!
I had so much fun sewing up this quilt, called Square Up, for the Fat Quarter Shop! This brand-new pattern is simple, beginner-friendly, and incredibly satisfying to put together. Despite its ease, it has a bold, modern aesthetic that immediately reminded me of a mosaic wall—structured yet full of character.
The Fabric: Bee Garden by Gingiber
For my version of the Square Up quilt, I used fabric from one of my favorite Moda designers: Gingiber. Her collections always feel hand-drawn and filled with charm, and this latest one is no exception. From striking, oversized bees to delicate butterflies, the theme of nature is front and center.
The palette ranges from soft pinks and lively greens to deep blacks and vibrant yellows—playful, yet beautifully balanced. My personal favorite? The bee print! But honestly, it’s hard to choose. There are so many delightful details: blooming florals, beehives, more flowers (did I mention the flowers?), and a whimsical energy throughout the entire line.

Breaking the Rules (Just a Little!)
In true-to-me fashion, I strayed from the original plan. Even though the pattern calls for fat quarters, I decided to use a layer cake. It gave me the perfect opportunity to showcase every design in the fabric line and truly let them shine.
To tie it all together, I paired it with Robin Pickens’ texture Thatched, which added beautiful depth and cohesion to the quilt. The combination really makes the whole project sing.
