Celestial Twilight Summer Block Party – Week 2
It’s Week 2 of the Celestial Twilight Summer Block Party, and this week Matt Harr has designed the perfect starry block for us. His block is a modern take on a timeless favorite—the Cathedral Window block. This is one of those classic blocks I’ve always wanted to make, but somehow never got around to. So when Matt shared his design, it was the perfect push I needed to finally give it a try.
And I have to say, I loved making this modern, stylish cathedral window block!
It’s actually much easier to construct than it looks. I found that the key was slowing down and focusing on the process. Taking the time to press each seam open really paid off in the end and helped everything come together beautifully.

My Fabric Modifications
I’m using a single background fabric throughout my quilt, so I made a few adjustments to Matt’s cutting instructions.
Instead of using the four colors called for in the pattern, I combined all of those pieces into my background fabric. That meant I needed:
- 4 pieces of B
- 8 pieces of C
- 16 pieces of D
- And disregarded pieces E through M.

This weeks Progress
Since I’m making Quilt 1, I made three 16″ blocks.
Since I’m also making Quilt 2, I made four 8″ blocks.
I’m loving how the fabrics are popping against the white and black mini-dot print. The contrast is really making the stars shine, and it’s exciting to see the quilt starting to come together.

I can’t wait for next week!
Not only will we have another fabulous block to add to our collection, but next week is the week to reveal my block—and I may have a little bonus project planned as well.
Happy sewing!!
