This is your invitation to slow down, snuggle up, and enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the inspiration, details, and magic behind my new Moon Spell Quilt pattern. Be sure to read all the way through, because thereās a special giveaway waiting for you at the end you wonāt want to miss. Let’s dive in!!

The inspiration behind Moon Spell Quilt
After making the Alaska quilt top that I taught on a quilting cruise last summer, I became a little obsessed with triangles and diamonds. Iāve played with these shapes beforeāespecially when making Falling Stars, Fragmented Star, and even my second quilt, which was a kaleidoscope quiltābut this felt different. I loved the repeating circle that came through even though there wasnāt a single curve.
I decided to take it further and explore similar shapes, turning them into templates and trying to figure out how I could make that concept my own. After working through many different designs, I fell in love with this one, Moon Spell Quilt.
How did I come up with Moon Spell? When my husband and I started dating, on one starry night long ago, he told me to look at the moon, and he showed me how you can see the shape of a bunny on the moon. This idea has been around for centuries, going all the way back to the Aztecs. The myth comes from Quetzalcoatl, who lifted the rabbit to the moon, imprinting its image for humanity to remember kindness. Something so beautiful that I remember each and every time I see the moon. And love how no matter how dark the darkest night I can always look forward to the moon and stars.

The Fabric brought this quilt to life
I wasnāt planning on releasing this pattern quite so soon. But when I saw the Mystic Fable fabric line from Ruby Star Society, I couldnāt resist moving up my timeline. Alexia Marcelle Abegg created such a magical, enchanted forestāfilled with birds, bunnies, horses, and so many thoughtful details. It truly feels like stepping into a fairy tale. The subtle nod to the apple brings Snow White to mind. While the cozy cabins with their smoking chimneys feel straight out of Hansel and Gretel.
The design of the quilt touches on so many thingsāthe lacy and intricate feel of the background fabric makes me think of sleeping underneath a canopy of trees, where openings form and stars peek through.

Kits and Templates
The blocks are made up of four squares that are repeated and arranged in different ways to create movement and circular shapes across the quilt. The pattern includes in-depth instructions and clear diagrams to guide you every step of the way. The templates are a key part of the design and truly uniqueāthey create a narrow triangle shape that gives the quilt its distinctive look. Iāve partnered with Quilters Paradise to create templates for you, and if youād prefer plastic rulers, you can grab a set in my shop.
I also have four kits available in the shop. Perfect if youād like to skip the guesswork of fabric selection! Everything is ready and waiting to help you get started.
Iāve been so pleasantly surprised by how beautifully the colors stand out against the black background. I expected them to blend in more, but instead they pop in the best wayāvibrant, bold, and full of life.

I want to take a moment and send a huge shout-out to my amazing pattern testersāDebbie Fletcher, Roberta Smith, Miyu Greene, Rachel Fields, and Cassie Gribble. You all are rock stars, and your feedback and creativity make my patterns so much better. Stay tuned!! I will be showing off their quilts on the 19th.

I love the pattern! I think you could even flip flop the blocks or just use one of them to do a gradient/rainbow effect if you chose to use more than two fabrics. I also love how you used the panel in on the back. It makes it a reversible quilt :)!
