The Half Square Triangle
Half Square Triangles are my favorite thing to make! This is how to make them. On the backs of a square, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner. Place drawn square RST on a different color square. Sew .25” from both sides of the line. Cut on the line. Open and press seam toward the darker fabric. This makes two half square triangles. You use this to make any size you would like. This is how you would figure out what size of square to start with: Take your unfinished square size + 1/2″ (to account for the two 1/4″ diagonal seams).
Moda Love Quilt math would be: 9 1/2″ + 1/2″ = 10″
The Moda Love Quilt
By now, I am almost positive that you have seen this pattern, the Moda Love Quilt. It has been spreading like wildfire on Moda blogs. I saw it first on Thimble Blossoms, then hopped around to all of the Moda designers to find out what they loved on the Moda Love Blog Tour. The idea of one block to equal one quilt, genius!! I thought to myself . . . uhhh yes. Me too. I want to make one, too.
This Fabric
For my main fabric I used FELICITY by CYNTHIA COULTER. I really like the range of yellow and gray in this collection. The quilt was very easy to make. I think it would be the perfect beginner quilt for a quilting newbie. I am a BIG FAN of the half square triangle block.
So far, I have only completed the top. There is a lot more work ahead of me, but I am very excited to finish it. I can’t wait to have it done and add it to my list of finished quilts. This quilt would be a great one to keep in my car! Then I will always be ready for a picnic, a movie in the park, or watching a soccer game. I might even make it into a quillow.
