Oh my goodness!! Pinch me because I think I am dreaming!! It’s another pattern release day here at Brown Bird Designs and this one has been a long time coming. I came close to picking this design to release instead of Garden Star 2 when I worked with Citrus and Mint’s playful collection many years ago. Instead, I put this design back in my pocket and have been waiting for the perfect time and perfect line to bring it into the world. This is Inflorescence Quilt, and isn’t she lovely?? The Inflorescence Quilt Pattern

This pattern is a modern take on the flower. The pattern uses a few different hexagons to construct a bold quilt. It incorporates Y-seams, and that can be a bit scary, but fear not! Whether you’ve worked with Y-seams before or you’re new to them, this pattern is perfect for pushing your skills.

I’m a big lover of hexagons because they are not your traditional quilting block. These hexagons come together quickly, and the pattern is packed with tips on working with templates, hexagons, and Y-seams. Take your quilting to the next level with the Inflorescence quilt.

🖤 Black Hobbs Batting for the Win!

This is the perfect project to add Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 Black Batting because both the quilt top and bottom use dark fabrics. And black batting!! How fun!! This particular batting is a Cotton/Poly Blend. I quilted this quilt in 3 days and used many different motifs like swirls, leaves, and scales. I just love how everything comes together on this quilt to make a dynamic piece.

Verbena Fabric

For the Inflorescence quilt, I used Ruby Star Society’s Verbena line. This line was meant for me! It has deep blues, playful pinks and teals, vivid purples, and dark greens. Jen Hewlett, the creator behind it, is a master of flowers and color. The colors work so well together and pop against each other.

With this quilt, I went a little wild and decided to use a plaid fabric as my background. I love this plaid. In fact, I have wanted to use strips in a quilt as the design element for a long time now. The plaid is subtle and doesn’t fight for attention. But it did throw a kink in my timeline. Originally, I wanted to release this in December, but with the winter lull, I put it off and focused on other things like the giving challenge. A large part of putting it off was due to not having enough advanced yardage of the plaid fabric because I wanted all the lines in the same direction. I knew I was going to buy a bolt for my store, so I waited for that.
