Quilting is more than just fabric and stitches—it’s a journey filled with creativity, passion, and a community of makers who inspire one another. Today, I have a special treat for you!! I would like to share the work of one of my talented pattern testers, Miyuki! I know her as Miyu. She sent me her beautiful quilt so I could take some photos of it and I had so much fun with this bold and flirty quilt. Let’s take a closer look at her stunning version of the Drift Quilt and get to know a little more about her quilting journey!

Would you like to share a little about yourself?
My name is Miyuki, but my family calls me “Miyu.”
I love quilting with my sewing machines (a Bernina 750QE and 350SE).
It is always fun and joyful to make new quilts.
I also love cooking and baking.
Where do you live?
My husband and I live in Gold Canyon, Arizona, with our dog, Poseidon.
A little about your family?
I have a wonderful husband who is also my best friend.
He always supports my quilting journey, allowing me to continue doing what I love.
Poseidon, our lovely Doberman, came from the California Doberman Rescue.
What brought you to Arizona? Where are you from originally?
My husband got a job in Arizona, so we moved here from Texas.
However, I am originally from Japan.
A special family tradition?
Since we got married, we have had two special family traditions:
- We cook Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas ham together.
- We carve pumpkins together for Halloween.
What got you into quilting?
When I moved to the States, I wanted to find something for myself because I had no friends, and my husband was very busy. He helped me find a quilt shop not too far from our house. I started taking classes there until we moved to San Diego. That was the beginning of my quilting journey.
How long have you been quilting?
About 14 years (since I moved to the States).
What do you love most about quilting?
I love making blocks with new patterns.
Your thoughts on the Drift Quilt Pattern?
It is a fun pattern and a little bit challenging, but I believe everyone can enjoy it and create beautiful quilts!

The Drift Quilt – Pretty in Pink
Miyuki’s version of the Drift Quilt is a perfect showcase of both skill and creativity. She chose Confection Batiks by Kate Spain for MODA as her fabric selection, bringing a vibrant and elegant touch to her quilt. Every stitch is precise, thanks to her choice of Superior Threads Masterpiece #155 for piecing and Superior Threads KING TUT for quilting.
For needles, Miyuki used a Superior Topstitch 90/14 for piecing and a Jeans Needle to ensure smooth stitching through the layers. I’ll have to try quilting with a Jeans Needle—that’s something I haven’t done before!
She documented her process and sent me all of her photos. Don’t you just love it?

Miyuki’s take on the Drift Quilt is a good example of how quilting blends creativity and challenge into something truly beautiful. Her passion for sewing, combined with her dedication to learning and experimenting with new patterns, is nothing short of inspiring. Whether she’s quilting, baking, or celebrating family traditions, Miyuki pours her heart into everything she does. Thank you, Miyuki, for sharing your story and your incredible quilt with us!
I am so grateful to have Miyu as a pattern tester. It is because of my testers that I am able to do what I do and create high-quality patterns. Miyu has been working with me for many years and, unbelievably, has tested every single quilt pattern I have sent out for testing.
Thank you so much, Miyu—you are my rock star!
