Working with Make Modern on this quilt gave me just the push I needed to finally get this pattern written. It also brought a little extra income into my side hustle, which lets me breathe a sigh of relief. They are wonderful to work with!! They actually just sponsored The Great Jelly Roll Bash which was so much fun!!

The Details: Quilting Techniques & Materials

The fabric was generously sent by Riley Blake, and I used their solid fabrics called Confetti Cottons on the front of the quilt . I played around with different colors adding some in and taking some out until I found the perfect combination. I’m already planning more versions of this quilt using prints—I can’t wait to show you what’s next! Here is a list of the fabrics I use in this quilt:

1 Column – Sweet Mint, Sea Glass, Teal, Wedgwood
2 Column – Dream, Celestial, Medium Blue, Coastal Blue, Denim
3 Column – Celery, Grass, Holly, Olive
Background – White

For the binding and most of the back of the quilt I used Feed My Soul by Sandy Gervais. A cheerful and fun floral line that actually has a cheater print in it. I kind of want to get it so practice quilting on it.

I hung my Nightline Quilt on a rope between two trees over a stream.

I quilted the Nightlight Quilt using light blue Aurifil thread and my go-to wool batting from Hobbs, which is a staple in my sewing room! I decided on straight lines for quilting the quilt however I angled them in different directions within each hexagon, creating a look I love. My Bernina walking foot made it all come together perfectly.

Behind the Scenes: Quilt Photography Adventures

If you follow me on Instagram (@brownbirddesigns), you might’ve seen some early morning escapades in my stories! At 5:30 in the morning, I was out and about trying to capture the perfect shots of my Nightlight Quilt. I even teased the back of the quilt in one of my stories. What a crazy morning it was! Did I get my shoes soaked? Yep! Almost smash my camera lens while balancing on some rocks? Oh, definitely! But was it worth it? 100%. I’d love to hear what you think about the final photos—drop your thoughts in the comments below!

Thank you so much for your continued support. I can’t wait to share more quilty goodness with you all soon!

This quilt would be a perfect picnic quilt
