Easy Make- The Shaded Trail Quilt

Easy Make- The Shaded Trail Quilt

DanDaDaDan!! I seem to be on a roll. I am so excited about working with the Fat Quarter Shop and Riley Blake Designs that I decided to turn today into a party. So, get yourself a drink, (mine is a cup of tea) and some treats (mine are fat quarters of my favorite fabrics and a DingDong) and let’s talk about all the quiltie things. Oh, and don’t forget to read until the end because… I will be giving a fabric bundle away.  Okay, I am ready now. Everyone, this is the Shaded Trail Quilt.

It is a pattern that the Fat Quarter shop created for their Vintage and Classic Series. In that series they tell you about the publication the original block was found in and how you can make it using modern notions and techniques. They will be releasing a video with all the steps on how to make the block later this month, but you can get a feel for the series by clicking here, the link will send you over to their YouTube channel where you will find all kinds of videos and tutorials from the Vintage and Classic Series. To get the pattern you can click here.

The Shaded Trail Pattern

I love how the Fat Quarter Shop has us make the block Shaded Trail Quilt block. It becomes very simple even though it looks intricate and has a wonderful graphical impact. I was able to finish this small quilt in three days so if you are looking for a simple and quick pattern to make, guys this is it. You can get the Shaded Trail Quilt pattern by clicking here. The available sizes are just the block (which is free) or they offer the full pattern which includes instructions for a crib, lap, twin, and queen size quilt. So many options. But the options don’t stop there, you can also get the quilt kitted in Christmas fabrics.

I have been arguing with myself. Half the time I see snowballs and half the time I see a garden lattice. What do you see??

This crib sized quilt uses a few different Riley Blake Design’s basics. Blossom is used a couple of times in a few different colors. Here is a rundown of the fabrics I used:

The Fabric

Background: Blossom Gray
Contrast Fabric: Confetti Cottons Solid Steel
Pink 1: Blossom Peony
Pink 2: Blossom Apricot Blush
Pink 3: Blossom Lipstick
Pink 4: Blossom Baby Pink
Border 1: Blossom Lipstick
Border 2: Confetti Cottons Solid Steel

Backing: Saturday in Paris Navy Main
Binding: Saturday in Paris Coral Stripe

I am swooning over the grey and pink pallet. It’s the perfect quilt of a baby girl!! For the backing I picked out another fabric from Christopher Thopmson. It has a navy-blue background with pink and peach flowers. This fabric and the strip fabric I used for the binding are from his Saturday in Paris fabric line. So good!!

How I Quilted the Shaded Trail Quilt

For the quilting I used my Bernina BSR foot on my 440 Bernina. Wanting to try something different and excited that it is a smaller quilt that I can quilt on my domestic machine, I decided to try to quilt a crocodile skin pattern. The combination of the quilting, pattern and the cotton Hobbs Batting I used turned out great. It has some fun texture.

The Giveaway

UPDATE: Beverly Ann Ray you are the winner!! I will email you asking you for your mailing address. Thank you for participating. And now for the party surprise, a Giveaway. Okay I did spill the beans a little, but I didn’t want you to miss out on entering into the Shaded Trail Quilt giveaway. Most of the fabrics in the bundle are the same as the ones I used here, however, I did change it up a little. For the fabric bundle there will be 4 extra large fat quarters of pinks, 2/3 yard of Lipstick, 6/8 yard of Moss, 7/8 yard of gray and 7/8 of gray on gray. Fun right!! To enter all you have to do is comment on this post.

If you would like a subject, tell me about your favorite quilting/party snack. Mine is uncrystallized candied ginger because it doesn’t make a mess unlike chocolate. LOL. I will count up all the comments and assign a number to the comment. Then I will use a random number generator to choose the winner. I will announce the giveaway winner in two weeks, on August the 3rd.

Good luck everyone!!

Let’s raise our glass to another finished project!!! Cheers!! To see more of my finished quilts head over to my Quilts I Have Made page by clicking here. You can find quilting fabric and quilting supplies for your project at Fat Quarter Shop.

I would say I see more of a garden lattice than a snowball. I don’t snack when I am quilting, but other times, I would say popcorn is my favorite snack.

I am never snacking while sewing. I love your fabric choices. I drink tea or water while sewing. I have Accuquilt and hopefully will be able to make it faster and cut some out soon.

I am kind of addicted to Otterbein Chocolate Chip cookies. They’re made in my hometown of Baltimore, and available I guess in the northeast US. Super tasty, all natural. I keep a bag by my machine at all times!!
