Oh my gosh, you guys, I am in love with Chambray by The Tattooed Quilter! These lightweight fabrics are so versatile. Not only are they 100% cotton, soft, and luxurious, but they are forgiving too. I love the feel and the detail in the weave. It’s perfect! I, of course, made a quilt out of them, but I dream of making a flowing dress. I can see it now. Something like the Calvin dress… Yes! That would be lovely. But I think I am going to need more Chambray fabric. LOL.

It is with bated breath that I say this… 

I have been fiddling with the design for a couple of years and I can’t believe that I can finally share it. This process has been a labor of love. Dare I say it . . . it has Y-seams. I know. I know. That is like a curse word for some of us quilters. But Y-seams are not that bad. The first time I attempted them was with my YoYa quilt. If you go slow, they are actually doable, maybe even easy. The diamonds are so much fun to make. For me they are addicting. I have so many plans for the diamonds and the hexagons; it’s really exciting. But let’s take a step back and let’s start here. This, ladies and gents, this is Stars in Pieces. It is modern. It’s Chambray luxurious. It is chaotic and it is exactly the way it is supposed to be. A little like life. 

Chambray Fabric

The Chambray fabric I used are Indigo, Stripe Navy, and Dot Blue in this quilt, all designed by the one and only Christopher Thompson (aka The Tattooed Quilter) for Riley Blake Designs. Some of my favorite quilts have been made with his fabrics, like the Butterfly Quilt and the Mod City Center. Everything he does I absolutely love. The contrast is wonderful between the three. The light blue has a great pop when paired with the other two fabrics. I do have a favorite in the bunch, it is the Stripe Navy. I love the tiny white threads that make the stripe. For a fun twist I improved my quilt back with two Riley Blake Designs Basics, Painter’s Palette Halftone Dots Red and Texture Barn Red. I absolutely love how the back turned out and want to make a big quilt similar to it.   

I quilted this Stars in Pieces Quilt with simple straight lines because I couldn’t decide on a different option. At first I thought I would make diagonal lines that all intersected at the star. Cool, right??  Wrong. I sewed the first four diagonal lines and could tell that It was going to end up puckering a lot so ripped those seams out and went with straight lines. Now remember when I said that these Chambray fabrics are forgiving? Because of the weave in the fabric, you couldn’t see the mark from the stitches I took out. A big plus. 

The next project I have to finish is the throw size quilt from this Stars in Pieces pattern. I have it all ready. I just have to quilt it. You will have to help me with ideas on how to quilt it. Should I stick to straight lines or do something else? I would love some suggestions. It is made up of reds, purples, pinks and lime greens. A Poco Loco. I wonder if hearts would work.
